A trending topic about staying focused in business, the 5 am club is a theory to wake up at 5 in the morning and do all the things you put off. While the concept is based on the early bird gets the worm, it is not the perfect concept.
First off, it does not account for people that work night shift or second shift. Secondly, it does not account for what you actually want to achieve in your day, it is simply a concept used to do things before your 9-5. And while this is very effective for some people, you need to take it to fit your needs.
Maybe you want to do a weekend only 5AM club where you do everything early morning and then nap later that day. I don’t know. But 5AM only works for me sometimes and others not. And I don’t think shaming me for having a normal life is the right method either. I used to start work at 5AM, if I woke up at 5 I would have been an hour late to work. And what about when I worked 7PM to 7AM? Technically I was already up at 5AM but needed to be asleep by 9AM. There is no perfect life schedule that makes you an immediate success. You need to deal with the cards dealt to you in what ways work. Now I am not bashing the underlying concept of getting the stuff done first in the day. For example, waking up a little extra before work to do light cleaning and cleaning as you go the rest of the day. I also think it is good to run your errands on lunch breaks or as you can to save time in your day. But again, not everyone has this luxury and luxury it is.
So, the old age concept is still true- bite the bullet first thing when you wake up…whatever time that is. But there is no 5AM perfection. And I have tested it. I am no more productive today as I was waking up at 7AM. In fact maybe I am less productive because now I am extra tired. Because 5AM doesn’t work for everyone.
But you are more than welcome to try it. Good luck and as always stay well.
