How do you practice self-care?

Self care is so important in your life. It is health care and it is the thing that keeps you going. There are many ways to practise self care like a long hot bath or a walk around the block. But more than that it is taking time to make yourself happy and feel good. Whether for you that is to remind yourself to floss everyday and being proud of yourself for doing so, or simply eating a salad instead of a burger for dinner. Self care is how to heal yourself and how you take care of your self.

It is self explainatory although in society it gets taken out of context and the term is stetched passed what it really is. Maybe for one person self care is having a ten thousand dollar vacation because they feel they needed it. I wish I could have this level of self care. Right, who wouldn’t want that?? But for most people it is taking a long shower, styling your hair and dressing in clean and well kept clothes.

For me, I like to take time to pursue things that make me happy. This could be to do a watercolor painting or to write … ehm ehm. Please subscribe.

Anyway, let’s continue on from my begging for subscribers. Ignore my slight blushing from embarrassment. Oh yah, you can’t see me. That is good I suppose.

I like to do self care in terms of pursuing my hobbies and my creativity which so often gets lost when we get busy. Some days self care is simply flossing my teeth to avoid cavities and others I have finished writing that novel ending. The novel took me one week to write in a hyper focus fueled, meltdown? insanity? not sure what to call it, but the ending took me one year to complete. And it was only three chapters. That is because I changed the ending maybe ten times. But yes, for me my hobbies are projects. I love me a good project. Even if sometimes that project is simply, combing my hair for the first time in three days.

Take care of yourself. I hope you all are having good days and I hope you get a moment to care for yourself in this insane world we live in.

  1. This is great advise, especially for ADHD or autistic folks like me. When I hyperfocus self care gets thrown out the window. I miss phones and texts and have to be reminded to eat. So when I have those down days when I can barely remember what day it is and have depleted my energy stores I am happy if I get in a walk, remember to eat and move around. Thanks for the tips.
