like a fine wine

What do you think gets better with age?

I would gut react answer wine. Always wine. However there are many other things too. Like love and friendships, your cooking skills I hope, and of course how much money you make. But in this economy we cannot be sure it is actually increasing the same as inflation or if we are just keeping consistent in our starting wages with the inflated prices.

A nice merlot or a Sauvignon is good with age. People I think discuss a nice aged Chardonnay but I am not much a of white wine drinker myself. I like the reds. The sweet and savory. The dry and crisp. Well, I like the white wines too I guess. I just don’t know them as well.

Cooking is definitely for me one thing that got better with age. I was always a good cook but now I rarely make mistakes even without measuring. That is if I can manage to remember to set a damn timer. I’m always burning food. Oh well, I can always start over. I just hate wasting food. It’s like a little heartbreak each time. Is that dramatic? Maybe but do I care? Definitely not.

Ahhh love. And friendships. Definitely better. I used to have lots of friends but no one I could depend on. Now I have like 3 friends who would let me stay with them if I lost everything. And love well, it’s real. It’s not longer that puppy dog love where you plan your forever with no intentions of it being true. Not that you mean to. But you change so much as people and grow apart. A common problem with love that tends to happen less as people settle into themselves and become more comfortable with who and what they are. So the love can grow without restraint of diverse futures and different desires long term.

And I would like to say money improves. However in recent times I feel like we just stay consistent in the inflated economy. Although Forbes magazine once said that if you are not increasing your pay or having a promotion every 1-3 years you need to move on. This stuck with me for years and helped fuel my career. It also made me learn when to cut ties and when there is potential for growth.

All in all aging is beautiful and I want to do it naturally and with grace. Although I am not opposed to the occasional Botox for migraines of course. And frankly even if you just want to smooth some wrinkles. Also no shame in hiding those greys if you feel like it. I personally like mine. Or at least I did. I’m not sure now. Either way I’m enjoying my years and for me life is simply better and better every year.

Cheers to life and many more years to come.
